“In the day of prosperity be joyful. But in the day of adversity consider: Surely God has appointed the one as the other. So that man can find out something that will come after him.” Eccl 7:14
THE EXERCISE OF POWER BY GOD OVER HIS CREATION IS CALLED SOVEREIGNTY
In his first inaugural address at the height of the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt said this, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. It has been said “that fear makes cowards of us all”.
There has been an abundance of fear and intimidation brought forth by media and self serving reactionary persons with their agendas. To irresponsibily alarm the populace with intimidation and fear is indicative of selfish pride.
“Pride goeth before a destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Prov 16:18
Pride is the opposite of humility, the proper attitude of one should have in relation to God. Pride is rebellion against God because it attributes to oneself the honor and glory due to God alone. Pride is what caused Satan’s downfall when he stated: “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.” ISA 14:14
A synonym for Satan is “adversary”. An adversary is an enemy, a rival. a rival is a competitor; Satan proved this in his desire to ascend to the throne of God. An adversary creates adversity!
“And lest I should be exalted…a messanger of Satan to buffet me…And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, most gladly…For whan I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Cor. 12 7-10
Dr. Charles Stanley has stated in his 30 Life Principles that: “Adversity is a bridge to a deeper relationship with God.”
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowshiip of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurection from the dead.” Phil 3:10,11
God uses adversity to conform us to the image of Christ. initially Adam was created perfect, placed in a perfect environment and was given free will with only one restriction and was told what would happen to him if he violated that one restriction. Enter the tempter!
“Now the serpent was more cunning that any beast of the field.” Gen 3:1
First Eve, then Adam fell for Satan’s deceit; humanity then lost its communion with its Creator, this was the first adversity. How could humanity (created in God’s image) reestablish its communion with its Creator?
God, being just requires a perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of mankind. This could only be accomplished through the sacrifice of the Savior Jesus Christ! This through God’s grace.
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence.” Eph 1 7-9
There is a pandemic more serious than the present Covid-19 we are experiencing, it affects 100 % of the world’s population and it is 100 % fatal. It is called unbelief! Unbelief that Jesus Christ died for your sins. Are you an unbeliever?
